Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a combat sport that focuses on grappling with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and chokeholds to force an opponent to submit or to stop resisting and give up. The art was based on early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese Jujutsu.

It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition. WHAT OUR COACH SAYS
"If anyone gets a chance to visit Malaysia, don’t pass up the opportunity to call in to the KDT gym and meet Sam and Vince – wonderful hosts and great training partners. "
"I've started BJJ at KDT for about a yr and a half. I was 76kg when I first started. Over the course of my training, my strength, endurance & physique have improved. I've also lost about 8kgs. At 30yrs of age, I feel that I am at the best shape of my life. I always wanted to learn a martial art minus the "mumbo jambo" usually associated with traditional martial art BJJ brought me the confidence that my techniques actually work under duress situations. What's amazing about it that it took so little time to learn! It is straight forward, no flashy moves and most of all, fun! Finally, the members that make up KDT provide for a fun and safe environment to train... "
"
I began my BJJ training at KDTA and it has transformed my life. It is an amazing art and is exceptionally good for women due to the fact that it promotes the use of leverage and technique as a means of defending oneself again bigger, stronger opponents. BJJ constantly challenges you, and learning BJJ at KDTA provides a relaxed and safe environment within which to explore new techniques and sharpen your skills. BJJ is certainly one of the most effective Martial Arts around, and it is a total blast not to mention a ripper of a workout!"

"What I have found in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is, no disrespect meant towards Karate or any Traditional Martial Art (TMA), something that works. It’s that functionality which first drew me in – and this is the kind of realization that usually only comes with getting choked out. If, as John Keats said, truth is beauty…then beauty is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu"
This year KDT Academy will be making available a step-by-step Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training program from White to Blue belt, with all the required techniques in a concise manual. With the support of our local instructors, we will visit your club to provide instruction and assistance nationwide. Contact us for more details if you are interested.
